ST. PAUL, MN., November 19, 2014 – The Jacobson Law Group is pleased to announce Shane Plumer has been chosen as the recipient of the 2014-15 Edmund White Bear Sr., Scholarship award. Shane, a second-year law student at the University of Minnesota, is a member of the Red Lake Tribal Nation. Shane has demonstrated his commitment to Indian law through his work as a law clerk for the Tribal Court and the Legal Department of the White Earth Band of Ojibwa, a paralegal for the Native Public Defense Corporation and, currently, as a certified student attorney at the Indian Child Welfare Law Clinic in Minneapolis.
The Edmund White Bear, Sr. Scholarship is offered annually to an Indian law student who demonstrates high academic achievement and leadership qualities. The $1,000 per year scholarship is available to enrolled members of a state, federal, or Canadian-recognized Indian Tribe attending an accredited law school in Minnesota. The scholarship honors Edmund White Bear, Sr., Kuu’ Nuxitwan’u, a life-long advocate of Indian students and access to education.
